Upper Body Implants in Columbus

Upper body implants can dramatically increase the size and appearance of definition in upper arm muscles for men. Through deltoid, bicep, tricep, and trapezius augmentation procedures, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Brian Dorner can help male patients achieve the defined arms that they desire. Additionally, upper body implants can help to correct areas of muscle imbalance that could be caused by a congenital or physical defect, as well as disproportional muscle development in the arms. Upper body implants are made of silicone and are specifically designed to look and feel natural and like a real muscle for optimal results. Dr. Dorner and his team will be able to discuss the various shapes and sizes of implants to determine how to achieve your desired outcome for a more defined figure with upper body implants in Columbus.

Types of Upper Body Implants

BICEP

Typically, patients who receive pectoral implants also opt for bicep implants. This would include just your average individual wanting slightly more definition, an athletic individual who wants to have a more defined appearance, patients with injuries to the bicep causing asymmetry, and lastly, aging patients who have lost definition.

The procedure is performed in our surgery center under general anesthesia. The incision is placed in the armpit, the same as for a pectoral or transaxillary breast implant, and the small incision allows access to the bicep muscle. The muscle is covered with a thick coating called the fascia, which is opened for the procedure and the soft implants are placed above the muscle between this covering. The entire procedure takes about one hour and patients typically are able to return home within the same day. Additionally, most individuals are back to work within a week.

Implants are generally customized to each patient. This is generally done at the time of surgery by sculpting the implant. However, customized implants could be created if desired by the patient.

TRAPEZIUS

Trapezius implants help improve the definition of the shoulder near the neckline. This provides a more muscular upper body appearance. This tends to be more athletic patients looking to further define their musculature. Although asymmetric individuals, those with trauma, or aging individuals are also good candidates. Both men and women have this operation performed.

The procedure is performed at our surgery center and is done as an outpatient, allowing you to return home the same day. The operation takes about one hour, and typically, patients are back to work within the week. The incision is placed within the crease of the neck so that implants can be inserted down along the trapezius muscle.

TRICEP

Triceps implants are less common than bicep or pectoral implants. However, the same category of patients who receive bicep or pectoral implants are also interested in triceps implants. The trend is more toward the aging or athletic individual to provide improved definition.

The procedure is performed in our surgery center, and the operation takes about one hour. Patients are able to return home the same day and are back to work within a week. Drains are not used, and the incision is small and placed up near the armpit, but is positioned further back in the armpit closer to the triceps muscle. Just as with bicep augmentation in Columbus, these implants need to be customized for each individual. This is usually done at the time of surgery, but customized implants can be ordered if desired.

DELTOID

Deltoid implants are placed for Columbus patients who are wanting to add more volume and definition to the upper most part of the arm and the top of the shoulder. They may be used to treat congenital deficiencies in the shoulder, reconstruct the shoulder after trauma, or just to emphasize and define the shoulder area.

During the procedure, an incision is made between the deltoid and the pectoral muscles. The silicone implant is shaped like an oval and the size will be decided upon by you and Dr. Dorner during your consultation. In some cases, fat grafting may also be performed to further enhance the area and improve the contour of the muscles.

What to Expect with Upper Body Implants

Following upper arm implant surgery, you should avoid strenuous exercise and weight lifting for an extended period of time, typically around 4 – 6 weeks. You will also need to attend follow-up appointments so that Dr. Dorner can ensure that you are healing properly. Immediately following your procedure, you will experience some slight swelling and bruising but this should subside over time. If you have any questions during your recovery process, we encourage you to contact our facility.
