When home skin care products are not effective but you are not ready for surgery, consider nonsurgical skin rejuvenation treatments like microneedling. Dorner Plastic Surgery is pleased to offer microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy) at our office in Dublin, OH. Microneedling uses many fine-gauge needles to safely and effectively create micro-injuries in the needed areas of the skin. The micro-injuries trigger the body's natural production of collagen and elastin, two nutrients that boost the health and appearance of your skin. Easily combined with other skin treatments, like serums or PRP (platelet-rich plasma), microneedling can help reduce pores, stretch marks, and scars. Schedule a consultation at Dorner Plastic Surgery to learn more about the benefits of microneedling and ways to customize the treatment for your skin needs and goals.
Microneedling with PRP
As an added benefit to microneedling, your own platelet-rich plasma (PRP) can be applied to the same area to further help tissue heal and allow the skin to grow new cells. These two treatments together are often referred to as the vampire facial and can reduce the appearance of scars, wrinkles, fine lines, dark spots, large pores, and other skin issues. The texture of your skin can be greatly improved to appear smoother and more even without damaging the skin.
Prior to the microneedling section of your treatment, someone from our medical staff will draw your blood for the PRP collection. The drawn blood will then be taken to our lab for the separation process where your stem cells, platelets, and growth factors will be condensed into PRP. Once the microneedling is complete, the PRP serum will be applied to the skin to sink in. After the PRP is fully absorbed, we will remove the serum and cleanse your skin.
"I will ONLY GO TO HIM!!! He did an amazing job! I researched for years and finally picked Dr. Dorner!!! I’m the first they asked years ago to do a video testimony on my experience of Breast Augmentation, and last I seen, I am still on his website 7 years later!! “Kim from Clyde”! He is seriously amazing and I always recommend him! So far I have had 2 people also drive about 3 hours to go to him and they thank me to this day for my recommendation and are so happy with their results!!!"- K.S. / Healthgrades / Jun 14, 2020
"Dr. Dorner and his staff are absolutely fantastic! From the consultation through surgery and post-op appointments they have been phenomenal. I feel like I’m part of the family when I go in to see him. Everyone is so friendly. I didn’t feel rushed through my appointments and I felt like he really listened to my concerns and was willing to answer any and all of my questions. I’m 2 weeks post surgery (liposuction) and I’m very pleased with my results. I can’t wait to see them after I’m fully recovered. If you’re thinking about having anything done I highly recommend Dorner Plastic Surgery. They are the best!"- M.A. / Google / Jun 11, 2020
"I wish I could give more than five stars; AMAZING experience! I've struggled to build muscle/bulk in certain areas of my body my whole life and decided it was time to take action. For about 6 months, I researched options and plastic surgeons, mostly based in LA and NY. I luckily stumbled across Dr. Dorner in my search and I'm so glad I found him. The whole staff is very friendly, supportive, smart and very accommodating. Dr. Dorner made recommendations based on the results I was trying to achieve and I have to say, he knocked it out of the park. I highly recommend Dorner Plastic Surgery."- R.C. / Google / Nov 23, 2019

"When All else Fails - If you've read my first procedure review, you know what's happening. If not, I'll give a brief synopsis for you.Back in 2016; I worked my a** off, literally. After losing 90 pounds I was left with stubborn belly fat and saggy skin around my abdomen. It was really affecting me and my view of my body. I worked extremely hard and felt I had nothing to show for it. Enter in, Dr. Dorner.I had my tummy tuck with muscle repair and liposuction done in September of 2016. 12 weeks into recovery..........Pregnant.I was extremely worried. I had just had this major abdominal surgery and now it was going to be undone; would it be okay for the baby, is it going to be too tight, would there be any complications? I had an amazing OB/GYN and it turned out her brother is a plastic surgeon. She said that she has had several patients that have had a tummy tuck and then had babies, with little complications, although they hadn't been as soon after.Long story short, everything turned out fine. I was fine, baby was fine (although she was breech and we couldn't get her to turn - no matter how hard we tried) and she was born in August of 2017.During my pregnancy I gained about 29 pounds. After my pregnancy, I gained additional weight. You know....new baby, whatever sleep I could get, nursing..these things took priority. I have managed to lose 23 pounds. So that's great, but it hasn't been lost from where I want. I've been trying hard, not as hard as before but still hard and the fats just not budging.I saw Dr. Dorner today for a consultation; after looking at the areas around my hips, he agreed and said he could perform liposuction with no issues. He did ask if I had had any drastic weight loss prior to my tummy tuck because I have more skin than he'd expect for someone who gained a small amount during pregnancy. I can't fault him for asking, I doubt he remembers my previous history, so I said yes. He briefly mentioned a posterior body tuck which I guess is like a tummy tuck for the backside. No thanks. Just the lipo please. I can live with my cellulite and not have to finance a down payment on a house. The quote was less than I imagined so I'm fairly certain this is going to happen. Just have to plan when; it looks like it will be shortly before mother's day, he's good at what he does and books out pretty far, plus it'll be my gift to myself."- M. / RealSelf / Mar 10, 2020
You may benefit from microneedling if you have slight to moderate skin issues, like rough skin texture or low elasticity. Microneedling treatments can also reduce the appearance of scars, stretch marks, and pores. You should be willing to wait a while before seeing the results of your microneedling treatment since the collagen and elastin will need time to have an effect on the skin, but you will have natural-looking results and gain better overall skin health.
Microneedling is performed in a treatment room in about 30 – 60 minutes with numbing cream or a local anesthesia if requested, but most patients feel mild or no discomfort. The skin being treated will be cleansed before the microneedling handpiece is passed evenly over. After the microneedling is performed, a topical treatment like platelet-rich plasma (PRP) or a vitamin-infused serum can be applied for deeper penetration of the nutrients into the skin. A moisturizer will be massaged in along with sunscreen since your skin will be sensitive after the treatment.
What to Expect
You may have some swelling and redness for about a day, but this should subside quickly on its own. It may take about 1 – 2 months as the collagen and elastin levels increase before you see visible improvements in the health and appearance of your skin. You should plan to get about 4 – 6 maintenance treatments every 4 – 6 weeks for optimal results and lasting skin health.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does microneedling cost?
The cost for microneedling will vary depending on what is included in your treatment plan. During your initial consultation, we will perform a skin analysis and then develop your unique treatment plan. From there, we will be able to talk about your costs and what to expect during the procedure. Dorner Plastic Surgery often offers specials on skin treatment packages, so be sure to ask about current deals during your consultation.
What exactly is microneedling?
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a nonsurgical treatment to tighten and rejuvenate your skin. Collagen is a fibrous protein that helps keep your skin supple, smooth, and tight. Over time, your natural stores of collagen are depleted and your skin becomes thin and loses elasticity. Microneedling creates small wounds in your skin. These micro-injuries prompt your skin to increase its collagen production and generate new skin cell growth. Once healed, your skin appears brighter, firmer, and healthier.
Can I combine other treatments with microneedling?
During the microneedling process, channels are created in your skin that make it easier for treatments to penetrate the deeper layers. This is why microneedling is often combined with other treatments, like vitamin-rich serums or platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Microneedling with PRP has become known as the vampire facial. During your consultation, we can discuss what treatments may be performed along with microneedling and which would most benefit your skin.
How many treatments are recommended for optimal results?
Most patients get 3 – 6 microneedling sessions to achieve their best results. However, the number of treatments you need will depend on the condition of your skin and your goals. Microneedling can be safely performed every 4 – 6 weeks as needed. During your consultation, we will be able to estimate how many treatments you will need based on your skin and goals. Once you have reached your goal, it is recommended to receive maintenance treatments every six months.
Is microneedling safe for everyone?
For the most part, microneedling is safe for all skin types and tones. Since the skin injuries created are so small, there are very few side effects after the treatment. Microneedling can be applied to most areas of skin, including the face, neck, arms, thighs, chest, and lower legs. Microneedling is not recommended if you have used Accutane within the last 2 – 3 months, as well as if you have an active skin infection, herpes simplex, or open wound. In addition, you may not be a candidate for microneedling if you are pregnant, nursing, or undergoing radiation treatments.
