miraDry Frequently Asked Questions
Underarm sweating while you’re exercising or nervous is normal, but excessive sweating that stains your clothes and causes an embarrassing odor is a medical condition known as hyperhidrosis. Dorner Plastic Surgery offers treatment for excessive underarm sweating using the miraDry system. miraDry from Miramar Labs is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to safely target and eliminate sweat and odor glands in the underarm area. Since you have about two million sweat glands within your body with about only 2% in the armpits, you can easily live without these. You'll probably enjoy an active lifestyle even more without worrying about wet marks, deodorant streaks, stickiness, and strong odors. miraDry is a fast, noninvasive procedure chosen by Dr. Brian Dorner to help Columbus, OH patients free themselves from underarm sweat.
"I will ONLY GO TO HIM!!! He did an amazing job! I researched for years and finally picked Dr. Dorner!!! I’m the first they asked years ago to do a video testimony on my experience of Breast Augmentation, and last I seen, I am still on his website 7 years later!! “Kim from Clyde”! He is seriously amazing and I always recommend him! So far I have had 2 people also drive about 3 hours to go to him and they thank me to this day for my recommendation and are so happy with their results!!!"- K.S. / Healthgrades / Jun 14, 2020
"I wish I could give more than five stars; AMAZING experience! I've struggled to build muscle/bulk in certain areas of my body my whole life and decided it was time to take action. For about 6 months, I researched options and plastic surgeons, mostly based in LA and NY. I luckily stumbled across Dr. Dorner in my search and I'm so glad I found him. The whole staff is very friendly, supportive, smart and very accommodating. Dr. Dorner made recommendations based on the results I was trying to achieve and I have to say, he knocked it out of the park. I highly recommend Dorner Plastic Surgery."- R.C. / Google / Nov 23, 2019

"When All else Fails - If you've read my first procedure review, you know what's happening. If not, I'll give a brief synopsis for you.Back in 2016; I worked my a** off, literally. After losing 90 pounds I was left with stubborn belly fat and saggy skin around my abdomen. It was really affecting me and my view of my body. I worked extremely hard and felt I had nothing to show for it. Enter in, Dr. Dorner.I had my tummy tuck with muscle repair and liposuction done in September of 2016. 12 weeks into recovery..........Pregnant.I was extremely worried. I had just had this major abdominal surgery and now it was going to be undone; would it be okay for the baby, is it going to be too tight, would there be any complications? I had an amazing OB/GYN and it turned out her brother is a plastic surgeon. She said that she has had several patients that have had a tummy tuck and then had babies, with little complications, although they hadn't been as soon after.Long story short, everything turned out fine. I was fine, baby was fine (although she was breech and we couldn't get her to turn - no matter how hard we tried) and she was born in August of 2017.During my pregnancy I gained about 29 pounds. After my pregnancy, I gained additional weight. You know....new baby, whatever sleep I could get, nursing..these things took priority. I have managed to lose 23 pounds. So that's great, but it hasn't been lost from where I want. I've been trying hard, not as hard as before but still hard and the fats just not budging.I saw Dr. Dorner today for a consultation; after looking at the areas around my hips, he agreed and said he could perform liposuction with no issues. He did ask if I had had any drastic weight loss prior to my tummy tuck because I have more skin than he'd expect for someone who gained a small amount during pregnancy. I can't fault him for asking, I doubt he remembers my previous history, so I said yes. He briefly mentioned a posterior body tuck which I guess is like a tummy tuck for the backside. No thanks. Just the lipo please. I can live with my cellulite and not have to finance a down payment on a house. The quote was less than I imagined so I'm fairly certain this is going to happen. Just have to plan when; it looks like it will be shortly before mother's day, he's good at what he does and books out pretty far, plus it'll be my gift to myself."- M. / RealSelf / Mar 10, 2020
"I had an amazing experience undergoing Ultherapy with Christine at Dorner Plastic Surgery. I was a bit worried about the pain going into the treatment, however, Christine was able to keep my discomfort to an absolute minimum. I would highly recommend this non-invasive, essentially painless treatment!"- A.S. / Google / Jan 18, 2020
miraDry Procedure Technique
miraDry can help anyone who wants to control the sweat and odor from their underarms. miraDry is a good solution if you:
- Have consistent problems with excessive underarm sweat
- Frequently have stains in the underarm area of your shirts
- Want to avoid the harsh chemicals and toxins in deodorant
- Are embarrassed by the odor caused by your armpits
- Want to feel cleaner and fresher
Say Farewell to Worry
To initiate your treatment, the area is marked, cleaned, and then numbed with a topical anesthetic to make you more comfortable during your procedure. Next, the miraDry device will be passed over the skin, using light suction to bring the sweat glands closer to the surface of the skin. The miraWave heated energy works on the sweat and odor glands while the surface of your skin is kept cool by the device. Most treatments take about one hour while you relax comfortably throughout the process.
What to Expect with miraDry®
After your treatment, your underarm area may have temporary swelling, soreness, numbness, or tingling for a few days, but you will have an immediate reduction in underarm sweat. Sweat glands do not come back once they are destroyed so your results will be long-term. To obtain the best results possible, two treatments spaced about 2 – 3 months apart are recommended. You can resume normal activities right after your treatment, but it is best to avoid strenuous activity, like exercise, for a few days.
miraDry Ideal Candidates
Excessive sweating — when is it time for help?
Hyperhidrosis is a frustrating condition that can disrupt life and cause social anxiety. Excessive sweating that occurs unexpectedly, out of the norm, or uncontrollably is common among patients with hyperhidrosis. When the sweating starts to interfere with everyday normal life, it is recommended to seek help so that you can live without the fear of sweating all the time.
Is miraDry right for me?
If you suffer from excessive, uncontrollable sweating that causes you ongoing anxiety or embarrassment, you may be a candidate for miraDry. This treatment can be used for sweating on the face, under the arms, the palms, and other areas where sweating occurs.
How many treatments?
While excellent results are noticed by most patients after a single miraDry treatment, studies have shown that most patients will experience an 80% overall reduction in underarm perspiration after their second treatment. At Dorner Plastic Surgery, we recommend that patients schedule at least two treatments spaced 2 – 3 months apart.
Is this safe?
miraDry is FDA approved as a long-lasting solution to hyperhidrosis. Since only a small percent of your body's sweat glands are found under the arm, it is safe to significantly reduce sweat glands in the armpits with miraDry treatments.
Stop worrying about underarm sweat and odor with a fast, minimally invasive miraDry treatment at Dorner Plastic Surgery.
